Palm oil is an essential ingredient in all sorts of products, from food and drink to cosmetics and detergents. It’s the thing that makes your ice cream smooth and delicious, gives your pizza dough a better texture and acts as a conditioning agent in your shampoo. When it comes to our crackers, palm oil helps us create a product that tastes great and is available as a gluten free option.
Palm oil is now the most widely consumed vegetable oil on the planet and is in about half the packaged products you see in the supermarket. However this massive demand for palm oil has put something of a strain on the tropical rainforests in which it is farmed, which has meant an increasing need for companies who use it to act responsibly.
In 2012 we became members of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) a global organisation which ensures plantation companies, manufacturers, retailers and all other associated groups connected with palm oil products adhere to sustainability best practice. The RSPO vision is to “transform the markets by making sustainable palm oil the norm”.
All the palm oil we use in our crackers is certified as sustainable by the RSPO and we are also supply chain associates of this organisation. Our suppliers are full members of RSPO and are therefore subject to annual audits regarding sustainability.
